The formal signing of the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between GlaxoSmithKline’s (GSK) Global Manufacturing Supply (GMS) – Cainta and the “Sandigan ng Kawani Filipino sa SmithKline Beecham Research Limited” Union was recently held at the Fort Bonifacio Global City.
The new three-year collective agreement, which takes effect from 01 January 2008 to 31 December 2010, was negotiated and ratified after only three meetings. “This CBA negotiation is a significant milestone. Not only was the settlement reached in the shortest amount of time in GMS Cainta history, it was also concluded very peacefully,” says Egay Alvinez, GMS Cainta Site Technical Director. “We managed to reach an agreement without getting any outside mediation to resolve our differences.”
Union officials present during the ceremony represented workers in the Cainta plant. GSK’s HR Vice President Lito De Guzman said, “Now that the CBA is concluded, it will promote a stronger partnership between union members and management, which is a key factor in successfully delivering on our commitment to our customers in the consumer and pharmaceutical industry.” Both Alvinez and de Guzman welcomed the expeditious and conflict-free negotiations and the growth-oriented CBA package as compelling proof of company unity. “This just proved that indeed, we are truly united as one GSK”, they said.
As one of the world’s leading research-based pharmaceutical and healthcare companies, GSK is committed to improving the quality of human life by enabling people to do more, feel better and live longer. Its manufacturing facility in Cainta, Rizal, which is operated by 200 employees and contractors, handles the manufacturing and packaging of GSK’s pharmaceutical and consumer healthcare products.
